It’s no secret that kale is a nutritional powerhouse and its versatility means it can be enjoyed any number of ways…including as a chip! But don’t think you have to run out to the store to enjoy this tasty snack. Store bought kale chips can have additives and, well, they are super expensive! They’re quick and easy enough to make at home and you give them a unique flavor by adding one of our favorite chip seasonings! Don’t limit yourself to kale either–try chard, collards or even a mix of hearty greens.
Kale Chip Seasonings:
Parmesan cheese: 2 tbsp olive oil, and 2 tbsp fresh ground parmesan cheese
Lemon: 2 tbsp olive oil, 2 tbsp lemon juice, and sea salt
Garlic: 2 tbsp olive oil, 1 tbsp garlic powder, sea salt and pinch of red pepper flakes
Smoked Paprika and Sesame: 1 tbsp smoked paprika, and 1 tbsp sesame seeds
Maple Chipotle: 2 tbsp olive oil, 1 tbsp maple syrup, 1 tbsp balsamic vinegar, chipotle seasoning and sea salt
Masala: 2 tbsp olive oil, sea salt, 1 tsp lemon zest, 1/8 tsp each of: cumin seeds, coriander seeds, nutmeg, red chili powder, cinnamon, turmeric and black pepper
Prepare wet and dry ingredients separately.
How to Bake Your Kale Chips:
Preheat your oven to 350 F.
Once your kale is washed and dried REALLY WELL, tear into bite-sized pieces. If the greens are wet they will steam instead of crisping up!
Choose your favorite seasoning. Drizzle leaves with liquid ingredient, and then sprinkle dry ingredients over leaves. Mix well to season evenly.
Spread seasoned leaves onto cookie sheet and bake for 10-15 minutes until edges are brown, but not burnt.
Tips for Perfect Chips:
I repeat: Make sure your kale chips are 100% dry, as any added moisture will inhibit chip crispness. Try using a salad spinner and then removing any excess water with paper towels.
Remove any large stems, as they will not crisp like the leaves.
